The Vision

In the middle of the Swan River, at the eastern gateway to the City of Perth, sits one of the little known jewels of Western Australia - Heirisson Island.

The 28 hectare Island currently consists of open grassed spaces, areas of native vegetation, reeded shorelines, beaches and inlets. It is primarily visited by joggers and recreational fishermen who enjoy its peace and tranquility. Every day thousands of people pass by this urban oasis without giving it a second thought.

Now imagine Heirisson Island, with its breathtaking views of the Swan River and the Perth City skyline, as home to sculptures from some of the world's best artists.

You could visit alone, take the family for a picnic or cycle onto the Island; see all the sculptures in one day or return time and time again because it's a public space.

It could become one of the world's great sculpture parks and an international arts tourism destination.

The sculpture park concept has now reached an exciting stage, with its inclusion in a new master plan for the island that has been approved by the City of Perth. Click here to view the masterplan.

To help turn the concept into reality, a not for profit organisation, the Heirisson Island Sculpture Park Inc, has been established to guide the project.
